After immersing yourself in the culture of Les Gets you might wish to take something home with you to remind yourself of your holiday and the village.
Types Of Souvenirs
There are a number of different souvenirs that can be bought to suit all ages and all tastes. Some are typical ski resort souvenirs but some are more unique to Les Gets. Postcards are perhaps the most obvious souvenir and can be found on display outside many of the shops in town. Some of the postcards show old black and white images of the town from many years ago, in its pre skiing rustic days. Others show mountain views or action shots of skiers or snowboarders. There are also postcards showing old ski resort posters. There are also full sized replica posters available as well. There are books available detailing the history of the area or giving information about off piste routes or hiking routes. Many souvenirs have the traditional Savoie flag on them, or the town name. Some souvenirs that include this are - stickers, hip flasks, traditional knives (such as Opinel knives, a company founded in 1890 in Saint Jean de Maurienne) and T shirts. There are T shirts with other designs on as well. To get the authentic Savoyard look visitors can buy cowbells, walking sticks and sheepskin rugs. Other shops also sell locally made and decorated pottery and traditional Savoyard clothes are also available. Toys that fit in with the Alpine setting are also available, such as cows and marmots.
Where To Buy Souvenirs
The centre of town has a number of shops to choose from when looking for the perfect souvenir.
Ici Et La Bas is located in the centre of town, just off the Rue De Centre and stocks a large selection of souvenirs.
Maison De La Presse is right on the Rue De Centre and is a large shop stocking toys, postcards, signs key rings, pottery and many more.
Also located on the Rue De Centre is Tentations. They sell a selection of toys, slippers, clothing and more.
The tabacs in town also sell a selection of souvenirs, particularly postcards.
The Les Gets Market
Another way to find local souvenirs is to visit the traditional market. This comes to town every Thursday from eight AM till noon. It is a great place to wander around and pick out a souvenir.
