Chatel is thirty eight kilometres from Morzine, via the Col Du Corbier. This route also passes through Saint Jean DíAulps, the village that is next to the Grand Terche ski area, which is also a part of the Portes Du Soleil. Heading in the other direction Morgins, in Switzerland, is only four and a half kilometres by road, with the larger resort of Champery just under nineteen kilometres away.
Geneva is the second largest city in Switzrland (after Zurich) and is just over seventy kilometres from Chatel. It has an international airport with frequent flights from the UK allowing convenient and quick access to Chatel. Geneva has a municipal population of just under two hundred thousand, with around four hundred and eighty five thousand people living in the city and inner suburbs. The total population of the Grand Geneve area is around nine hundred and fifty thousand.
Located just over one hundred and ten kilometres away from Chatel is Annecy. Annecy is the capital of the Haute Savoie Department as well as being the largest city in the Department with a population of one hundred and twenty five thousand and a total area of sixty seven square kilometres. Annecy is historically important, having been a settlement since Roman times and became the court of the counts of Geneva in the tenth century and passed to the counts of Savoie in 1401. During the French Revolution Annecy was taen by the French and became a part of the Mont Blanc Department, with Chambery as the capital. After being restored to the King Of Sardinia in 1822 it eventually became part of France again in 1860 and capital of the new Haute Savoie region.
