It’s the New Years week coming up and town is sure to be extra busy. The town has plenty of events and activities planned throughout the week to see the New Year in in style.
Starting on Sunday, New Years Eve, there will be a torchlit descent with fireworks on the Pleney at six thirty PM. Then, from ten PM there will be a DJ and dance floor in the square at the tourist office. Both of these events are free to all.
On Monday, New Years Day, there will be welcome drinks and cheese also in the tourist office square. This is also free to all.
On Tuesday the second of January there will be an “Explorer Game Tour” on the slopes between nine AM and five thirty PM. Entry is free at the tourist office and the aim of the game is to find answers to a number of questions at markers all around the ski area. Following this, at five PM, there will be a “race’clette” with free entry that is open to everyone aged seven and above. This is a friendly race with the chance to win a Raclette cheese. At six thirty PM the sportsmen and women of Morzine are in the spotlight in the town hall square with hot wine and hot chocolate on offer.
On Wednesday the third there is a unique opportunity to help open the slopes of the Pleney with Mountain Rescue professionals and then enjoy breakfast with them at their mountain hut. Registration for this is free at the tourist office and the event begins at eight AM. Later on in the day there is the Can’Nyon competition in the Nyon park, free entry to all good skiers and boarders over the age of fourteen. This runs from one thirty PM to four thirty PM. From four thirty PM to six thirty PM there will be a book event at the Libraire Passaquin featuring the author Angele Ferreux Maeght and her book “La Guingette Angele”. This event is free. From six PM Guy Perrault will be giving a free clarinet concert at the church. At the Skoda Ice Rink from eight forty five PM the Morzine – Avoriaz ice hockey team will be participating in an exhibition match against Black Easton. Tickets are eight euros for adults and five euros for children.
On Thursday the fourth there will be free fun and games at the tourist office square for children between six and twelve from four thirty PM to six PM. From six PM there will be Curly Bowling – a cross between “human curling” and “human bowling” which is free for everyone over seen years old. From eight PM to ten PM there will be floodlit skiing on the Pleney, included on all ski passes.
On Friday the fifth there is a free toy library in the tourist office square for children aged six and over between four thirty PM and six thirty PM.
